Abla Benslimane, Directora do Departamento de Relações Externas da Philip Morris International Duty Free, é oradora nas XVIII Jornadas Internacionais de Protocolo que terão lugar em Lisboa, no dia 7 de novembro de 2023, com o tema “The World is Bigger than Us” – O protocolo tem a capacidade de ultrapassar as fronteiras culturais, alimentando o nosso conceito comum de humanidade e tratando todos com respeito e dignidade.
Born in Rabat, Morocco, Abla graduated from Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane in 2001 where she majored in International Relations and minored in Women Studies. She later obtained a Masters in Education from Framingham University in 2005.
Abla started her professional career in 2001 with Oxfam Quebec to initiate revenue generating activities for women in the south of Morocco and in 2002 she worked for the Environment and Development Agency (ENDA) on good governance and sustainable development issues.
In 2003, she joined the US Embassy in Rabat as Political Analyst where she drafted and contributed to numerous official U.S. government reports and communications, critically evaluated and helped implement policy enhancing projects, and outlined a substantial professional network to keep abreast of societal trends and decision making. During her eight years at the US Embassy, she also worked with the U.S. State Department Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to develop specific proposals for improving the Moroccan juvenile justice system in coordination with Moroccan leaders and justice stakeholders. She managed the Middle East Partnership Initiative Women’s Pillar for the support and oversight of local reform projects such as Businesswomen’s Network, Family Law Advocacy and Awareness.
In 2012, Abla joined Philip Morris International (PMI) seizing what she saw as a unique opportunity to be part of the transformation of one of the biggest multinationals who has set a new course, publicly announcing in 2016 its plans to stop selling cigarettes through the development of smoke-free products based on scientific substantiation as better alternatives to cigarettes with the potential to achieve a significant public-health benefit.
She has since spent 10 years managing the External Affairs Department in Morocco in charge of fiscal and regulatory issues, public relations, and illicit trade prevention. In 2022 Abla moved to PMI Duty Free to run its global external affairs department.
